Not being fond of rain or winter, I was looking for some bright and cheery imagery for a weatherproof jacket. Printing a forest scene in the style of Leonid Afremov on waterproof fabric was a start.
Waterproof zippers blend in with the design and almost disappear. The remaining seams are sealed with Melco tape. A Primaloft batting is used with a fleece lining, making it especially nice and warm during inclement weather.
Primaloft needs to be secured, creating another opportunity for fun imagery. Leonid showers came to mind, so I used a meteor shower motif as a guide for hand-quilting the batting to the fleece.
A spectacular meteor shower event in 1833 was recorded in many drawings at the time. This is the one that inspired me.
